Meet Aaron Polk, Owner
Hi there! I'm Aaron Polk, proud owner of The Furniture Taxi. We all have a story to tell, and I'm so glad you stopped by to hear a little bit of mine.
I built this company out of my 23 years experience in the moving industry in hopes of creating a higher standard. My very first job as a teenager was as a delivery boy for my step-dad's antique business. One thing led to another, and the deliveries turned into moves and I was on my way to being a business owner by the age of 18.
At that time, I was able to recruit my friends to move furniture with me and we had a blast doing it. Moving furniture is not easy to do, but we were young, strong, and it kept us out of trouble!
Flash forward several years, and my moving business grew so much that I was able to support my entire family. I drove the trucks, kept up with all my equipment, and did all the moves I could handle.
Of course, none of us can predict the future, but I definitely never expected to go through such a life-changing injury at the young age of 27 years old. The life I knew was over in an instant.
I broke my neck while on a family vacation in Panama City, FL in a fluke accident on the beach. Right as it happened, I knew I was in trouble. My whole world turned upside down, and I lost everything. I had to sell my business to a larger company and gave up everything I knew. The doctor's diagnosis of my injury is a c6-c7 quadriplegic incomplete, without the possibility of ever walking again. I was airlifted to a hospital in FL where the AC had coincidentally been broken, and I lost about 30 lbs in one week. Shortly after, I was then airlifted again to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta where I spent about eight months of learning how to live with my new body, constantly fearing how I could earn a living again.
One thing I can say for certain is I don't give up easily. You will go as far as you believe you can go. With mounting hospital bills and medical supplies, I knew I had to start focusing on a way to make money again. This go around things would be different, and it took all I had to start over. That's how The Furniture Taxi came to life; through ambition and the will to succeed and not give up. Today, my company is trademarked and employs Veterans, students, and hard-working family men and women looking to make a positive impact on the people we serve.
